Nelson's Creek 2
Our main event for 2012 is the Wine Dine and Dog Day to be held at the Nelson Wine Estate

The Nelson Wine Estate will again be open to the public on Sunday 4th of November 2012 for the 2nd Annual Wine Dine & Dog Day.

Situated in the foothills of the Paarl Mountain adjacent to the R44 and in beautiful gardens this is the perfect place to spend a day in the country supporting a worthy cause.

Whether you have a basset, a bulldog, a border collie or a boxer or even a proud pavement special, you and your four-legged friend cannot miss out on the Wine, Dine & Dog Day on Sunday 4 December at Nelson’s Creek Wine Estate on the R44 between Wellington and Paarl.

The Wine Dine & Dog Day will have many activities catered for around man’s best friend, including a “Fluffie Draffie” (dog run/walk), the only cross country in South Africa for eligible dogs to try out, various demonstrations, including ones by the K9 Search & Rescue Association of the Western Cape and Dancing Dogs with Dogs in Cape Town, as well as the Meradog SA Dog Jumping Championships.

Dog owners can look forward to good food, fine wine and the opportunity to take your family and of course, your dog, for a picturesque stroll in the vineyards, relax and enjoy the various activities.

The programme for the day will start off early with the “Fluffie Draffie” (dog run/walk) which is open to walk all day, as well as the only Cross Country Course for dogs , designed by Lloyd Bristow, and built by Alan Nelson and his team.(R20.00 per entry for dogs who are approved). (Entry forms available on this website)

The Meradog Arena will be the centre of attention with various shows by trained dogs including Dog Dancing, and K9 Search and Rescue.

Here you will also be able to take part in the fun competitions such as “Waggiest tail”, “Best Mutt “etc. between 10h00 and 16h00 giving owners and dogs the chance to take part in the festivities. (Entry forms available on this website)

The proceeds of the day will go to animal welfare and the organisers plan to make this an annual event and invite all dog owners to join in this special day.

The Wine Dine and Dog Day is an event for the whole family including your best friend.  Dog lovers are welcome to join in the fun even if they do not have a dog of their own.

The event, dedicated to man’s best friend, kicks off at sunrise with either a dog walk or a run on the farm. The courses, over various picturesque routes depending on the level of fitness of entrants and their canine friends, will however be open throughout the day with volunteers manning water points along the routes for those that prefer to start later.

One of the routes follows a Rhenosterbos route with magnificent mountain views, while the other traverses farm dams and a Fish Eagle Forest where you can listen to the birds while you your dog takes a swim in the Nelson’s Creek.
There will be a large variety of dog events, including the South African Dog Jumping Championships sponsored by Meradog; dog dancing, obedience training, and search and rescue demonstrations.

Visitors can also participate in a host of fun dog competitions with lots of prizes for prettiest and ugliest pooch, look-a- likes, etc and the only cross country competition for dogs and their owners in South Africa.

All gate monies and entry fees for the Wine Dine and Dog Day are donated to animal welfare.

As the name implies, there will also be delicious food and wine on offer for those who want to laze beside the pool with their dogs and picnic in the tranquil atmosphere on this lovely wine estate. Live Music will be provided by Newton a brilliant local musician, who is himself an avid a dog lover.

Remember to bring your sun block, beach umbrellas and a blanket or chairs to sit on.

Entrance costs R30.00 per adult and R10.00 per child and this fee includes the fun walk. Dogs come free but can bring along a toy, blanket, or food for their less fortunate canine friends.

Please note that only friendly dogs that are on leads will be allowed to enter and you will have to ‘scoop the poop’. Bags and bins will be provided.

This is a unique event that will delight the senses of city dwellers and a must for the whole family - especially the family dog.
